This 1977 Dodge Tradesman B300 van features an Xplorer 224 Motor Home conversion by Frank Industries of Brown City, Michigan. Powered by a 360ci V8 paired with a three-speed automatic, it has front air conditioning, a rearview camera, a rear sleeping area, a convertible dinette, a bathroom with a shower head, sink, and toilet, and a kitchenette with a faucet, stove, and refrigerator. The vehicle was acquired by the seller in 2021, and subsequent work has included servicing its suspension, air conditioning, and utilities. This B300 Xplorer 224 is offered with manufacturer’s literature and a clean California title in the seller’s name.
The steel and fiberglass body is finished in white with repainted green stripes, and replacement Xplorer badges are fitted. Fiberglass repairs have been completed behind the right-rear wheel and on the roof at the left rear, and the rear bumper has also been repaired and re-chromed. Some discoloration is reported around the rear window along with areas of corrosion on the doors, body, and undercarriage.
The chassis was extended 3′ for the conversion, which also features a dropped floor for additional headroom. Front suspension components were replaced in 2021, and an extra leaf spring was added to the rear end. The 16″ steel wheels have bright hubcaps and are mounted with 245/75 Continental VancoFourSeason tires, which can rub up front during sharper turns.
The low-back front bucket seats are trimmed in vinyl, and the forward cabin has air conditioning, for which the compressor and receiver drier were replaced in February 2022. The cruise control is not working, and the fuel gauge only shows a half-tank when full. The seller adds that windows need to be resealed.
A rearview camera display is mounted above the rearview mirror. The dashboard has a replacement instrument cluster showing 89k miles, and a cluster showing 81k miles that was removed under current ownership is included in the sale. The seller reports traveling ~2k miles since acquiring the vehicle. Total mileage is unknown.
Re-covered with vinyl and Sunbrella upholstery over replacement foam, the dinette converts to a 6′ x 37″ bed, while the rear sleeping area, which has an overhead fan and louvered windows with curtains, can accommodate a double-bed mattress that was replaced in 2022. A heater, closet, faucet, refrigerator, two-burner stove, replacement carpeting, and blackout window covers are additional elements.
The bathroom has a toilet, sink, and shower head, however the vehicle needs a hot water heater. Propane and water systems were serviced in December 2021.
The 360ci V8 sends power to the rear wheels through an A-727 Torqueflite three-speed automatic transmission. The van most recently passed a California emissions test in December 2021. The seller tells us the engine will stall if you give it too much gas following a cold start.
