This 1943 M4A1 half-track is one of a reported 600 examples built by the White Motor Company under contract to the US Army during World War II. It was purchased by the current owner in 1983 and underwent a refurbishment that was completed later that year. The truck is finished in green over tan canvas upholstery, and power is sent to both axles via a 386ci gasoline inline-six mated to a four-speed manual transmission and a dual-range transfer case. Features include a front unditching roller, radiator shutters, folding window armor, machine gun mounts, rear mortar storage bins, and a trio of rear seats. This M4A1 half-track is now offered by the seller on behalf of the owner with a clean Virginia title listing the truck as a 1943 White Truck.
The M4A1 is based on the M2 half-track and entered service in May 1943 as a carrier for the 81mm M1 mortar. This example is finished in olive drab and features red, white, and blue US Army-style stars, a front unditching roller, manually operated radiator shutters, folding window armor, jerry cans and pioneer tools, machine gun mounts, a rear door, a pintle hitch, and .25″ body armor all around. The machine gun shown in the gallery is not included in the sale.
Multi-piece 20″ front steel wheels are mounted with 8.25-20 Alliance military-style tires, while each rear track drive is equipped with a front drive sprocket, four road wheels, a support roller, a compensating idler, and rubber-coated steel treads. The suspension features leaf springs up front and vertical volute springs out back. Braking is handled by hydraulically actuated drums.
The cockpit features a pair of seats trimmed in tan canvas as well as diamond-plate floors. Equipment includes a locking glovebox, a fuel tank control switch, a dash-mounted brake adjustment knob, a locking glovebox and instructional placards. The three-spoke steering wheel sits ahead of instrumentation including an 80-mph speedometer, a tachometer, and a combination gauge with readouts for fuel level, amperage, oil pressure, and water temperature. The five-digit odometer shows 2,500 miles, approximately 200 of which were added under current ownership.
The rear passenger area is outfitted with seating for three as well as covered storage bins and mortar transport containers.
The White Motor Company-sourced 386ci 160AX gasoline inline-six is equipped with dual fuel tanks and was factory rated at 147 horsepower. Service performed in 2025 reportedly included an overhaul of the carburetor as well as an oil change.
Power is sent to the rear or both axles via a four-speed manual transmission and a dual-range transfer case. The seller recommends removing and cleaning the right-side fuel tank.
