This 1946 Chevrolet AK Series is a ½-ton pickup that underwent over $69k worth of refurbishment work concluding in 2007, after which it was selected to participate in the 2008 General Motors Century Cruise. It is powered by a 250ci inline-six equipped with an Offenhauser intake and linked to a five-speed manual transmission, and the truck rides on a Mustang II-style front suspension with tubular control arms, disc brakes, and unassisted rack-and-pinion steering. The body wears tan and red paint, the pickup bed was refinished, and details include a chrome grille, a hinged windshield, running boards, a stainless-steel exhaust system, and 15″ slotted wheels. The cabin is outfitted with a red and tan bench seat, a heater, a CD stereo, and Dolphin instrumentation. Acquired by the seller in 2022, this AK Series pickup is now offered with refurbishment records and a clean Massachusetts title in the seller’s name.
The AK series debuted in 1941 and featured a chassis based on the General Motors A Platform, which also underpinned the contemporary Chevrolet Deluxe passenger car lineup. This example underwent rust repairs before the steel body panels were painted in the current tan and red color scheme during the refurbishment in 2007, and custom pinstriping accents the underhood surfaces. Details include a chrome grille and bumpers, blue-dot taillights, a drop-down tailgate, and running boards with bowtie step plates.
The pickup bed was refinished with oak slats and polished stainless-steel runners, and the seller states the wood boards will need refinishing.
The truck rides on a “Fat Mat” Mustang II-style front suspension with stainless-steel tubular control arms, disc brakes, and unassisted rack-and-pinion steering. The 15″ slotted wheels wear chrome covers and Goodyear Eagle GTII tires.
The bench seat is trimmed in tan and red upholstery and is joined by body-color metal surfaces. Appointments include a CD stereo, door speakers, a heater, polished stainless-steel trim, and a top-hinged opening windshield.
The three-spoke steering wheel frames a suite of Dolphin instrumentation including a 140-mph speedometer, a tachometer, and a combination gauge for fuel level, oil pressure, coolant temperature, and voltage. The odometer shows 28k miles, approximately 1k of which were added under current ownership. True mileage is unknown.
The 250ci inline-six was sourced from a 1979 vehicle and was installed in 2007, according to the seller. The engine breathes through dual carburetors and an Offenhauser aluminum intake manifold. A Painless wiring harness was installed during the refurbishment, and further equipment includes a “marine” camshaft, electronic ignition, a Chevrolet-script valve cover, and a stainless-steel 2.5″ exhaust system. The radiator and cooling fan were replaced in 2025.
The seller tells us the five-speed manual transmission was sourced from a 1992 S10 pickup and is linked to a limited-slip differential and 3.42:1 gears.
