This 1956 Hudson Hornet is one of 358 Custom Six Hollywood Hardtops made in the model year. Custom Sixes were powered by the 308ci L-head inline-six, and this example has has Twin H-Power induction consisting of dual Carter single-barrel carburetors and is linked to an automatic transmission. Hollywoods featured tri-tone paint schemes and V-shaped design elements, and this example has power steering, power drum brakes, 15″ steel wheels, and a Continental kit as well as Weather Eye air conditioning. This Hornet was acquired by the selling dealer in October 2023 and is now offered with a clean Missouri title.
The car was refinished under previous ownership in a three-tone paint scheme with a white roof over a Black (1) and Mint Green (77) body. Exterior details include wraparound windshields, fender-mounted side mirrors, reverse-rake C-pillars, mini-fins with vertical taillight towers, chrome bumpers with overriders, and a Continental kit. The seller notes corrosion on the chassis.
V-Line Styling cues added vee-shaped elements to the chrome frame for the mesh grille as well as the chrome full-length body-side moldings which expand on the quarter panels to encompass gold fills.
Body-color 15″ steel wheels wearing chrome covers are wrapped in Goodyear Super Cushion Deluxe whitewall tires. The independent front end has coil springs and tube shocks, while a Panhard bar, radius rods, and coil springs are utilized at the rear. The steering is power-assisted, as are the four-wheel drum brakes.
The interior features bench seats upholstered in beige vinyl and cloth with silver and white vinyl door panels and a black dash pad and carpeting. The car has Weather Eye air conditioning, a push-button AM radio, and a drawer-type glovebox, and the seller notes the seats fold but do not recline and may have a broken hinge.
A two-spoke steering wheel with a chrome horn ring fronts a 120-mph horizontal-sweep speedometer along with coolant-temperature and fuel-level gauges. The five-digit odometer shows 64k miles, approximately 30 of which were added by the seller. The steering wheel center cap and one dashboard knob are missing.
The 308ci high-compression L-head inline-six is configured with Twin H-Power induction consisting of dual Carter single-barrel carburetors and was rated at 175 horsepower and 278 lb-ft of torque when new. The engine features Selecto-Lift starting in which lifting up the shift lever engages the starter motor.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through an automatic transmission.
