This 1965 Ford Mustang coupe was acquired by the seller in 2012, and refurbishment work completed in 2015 involved overhauling the 289ci V8, refinishing the car in silver, and refreshing the black interior. The engine is equipped with a Weiand intake manifold and a Street Demon carburetor, the interior features TMI Products seating, and the car rides on 15″ American Racing Torq Thrust wheels and Grab-A-Trak suspension components. Additional equipment includes four-wheel disc brakes, power steering, MagnaFlow mufflers, a hood scoop, and bullet-style side mirrors. This Mustang is now offered with a copy of Mustang Monthly that details the car and a clean Indiana title in the seller’s name.
Delivered from the factory in Vintage Burgundy, the car was painted in its current shade of silver under current ownership following bodywork that included replacing the fenders. Details include a hood scoop, bullet-style side mirrors, and chrome bumpers. The LEDs for the right rear taillight do not work.
American Racing 15″ Torq Thrust D wheels are mounted with 215/60 front and 235/60 rear BFGoodrich Radial T/A tires. The car is equipped with power steering. Four-wheel disc brakes and Grab-A-Trak suspension components were installed under current ownership.
Components sourced from TMI Products were used for the interior refresh, and the front bucket seats, center console, and rear bench are trimmed in black. A Ford-branded push-button radio is housed in the dashboard.
A woodgrain-rimmed steering wheel sits ahead of aftermarket instrumentation including a 140-mph speedometer, an 8k-rpm tachometer, and auxiliary readouts. The digital odometer shows 2,500 miles, which represents the miles added under current ownership following the refurbishment work.
The 289ci V8 was overhauled following the seller’s acquisition and fitted with a Weiand intake manifold, a Street Demon four-barrel carburetor, an MSD distributor, and long-tube headers.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission. The dual exhaust system is fitted with MagnaFlow mufflers.
The warranty number is consistent with a 1965 Mustang coupe that was built in Dearborn, Michigan, and equipped with a 289ci V8. Decoding the trim tag reveals the following information:
- Body 65A – Coupe with standard interior
- Color X – Vintage Burgundy paint
- Trim 26 – Black vinyl with Black trim
- Date 09J – September 9 production
- DSO 44 – Twin Cities district sales office
- Axle 6 – 2.80:1 conventional rear axle ratio
- Trans 5 – 4-speed manual
The car was included in the February 2017 issue of Mustang Monthly, a copy of which is included in the sale.
