36-Years-Owned 1966 Austin-Healey 3000 BJ8 Mk III

This 1966 Austin-Healey 3000 BJ8 Mk III was acquired out of Arizona by the seller in 1989 and relocated to Maryland. It subsequently underwent an interior re-trim in addition to suspension, brake, and engine work as part of a refurbishment completed under current ownership. Finished in Healey Blue, the car rides on 15″ knock-off wire wheels and wears a blue soft top and tonneau cover. Inside, the 2+2 interior features blue vinyl upholstery along with a wood-rimmed Moto-Lita steering wheel and a JVC cassette stereo. Power is supplied by a 2.9-liter inline-six linked with a four-speed manual transmission and an electrically actuated overdrive unit, and further equipment includes dual SU HD8 carburetors, a PerTronix ignition kit, and a stainless-steel exhaust system. This 3000 Mk III is now offered by the seller and their spouse with a spare engine and transmission along with a British Motor Industry Heritage Trust certificate, service records, and a clean Maryland title.

Factory-finished in Healey Blue (BU2), the car’s left-rear quarter panel underwent rust repair and was repainted in 1989. Further details include a hood scoop, fender-mounted mirrors, and bright bumpers and trim. The seller recommends replacing the fuel filler gasket.

The 15″ knock-off wire wheels are mounted with 165-width Michelin XZX tires with 2018 date codes. Braking is handled by front discs and rear drums. The steering system and front suspension were rebuilt in 1989, while work in 1992 involved replacing the front brake calipers and rotors along with the rear shoes. Additional work at that time included replacing the brake master cylinder and rebuilding the booster along with shocks, front coil springs, and rear leaf springs.

A JVC cassette stereo is connected to Jensen speakers under the dash, and further appointments include a heater, a dash-mounted mirror, and a locking glovebox.
