This 1966 Chevrolet Corvette coupe is said to have been located in California for its first 40 years before relocating to the northeast, and the seller acquired it in 2018. The car is finished in Mosport Green over green vinyl upholstery and is powered by a 427ci L36 V8 paired with a four-speed manual transmission. Features include a Positraction differential, 15″ Turbine-style aluminum wheels, four-wheel disc brakes, power steering, a cabin heater, a cassette stereo, chrome bumpers, and retractable headlights. This C2 is now offered by the seller on behalf of the current owner with the owner’s manual, service records, and a transferable New York registration in the owner’s name.
The fiberglass body was finished at the factory in Mosport Green (982), and features include a domed hood, flip-up headlights, chrome bumpers, fender vents, tinted glass, a driver-side mirror, a side-exit exhaust system, and a retractable antenna. An additional pair of tail lights was added, and the windshield is a replacement. Imperfections are shown up close in the gallery.
The 15″ Turbine-style aluminum wheels feature knock-off spinners and are mounted with 215/70 Continental GT 8000 tires. The C2 was the first Corvette to offer fully independent suspension, with upper and lower control arms at the front and a three-link setup with a transverse leaf spring at the rear. Power steering was added in the 1990s. Braking is handled by four-wheel discs, and the master cylinder and booster were replaced in April 2020.
The cabin features two bucket seats upholstered in green vinyl as well as color-coordinated door panels and carpets. Amenities include a heater, a cassette stereo, Jensen rear speakers, an analog clock, and lap belts. The headliner was replaced in 2006.
The teakwood steering wheel frames a 160-mph speedometer, a tachometer with a 5,300-rpm redline, and auxiliary gauges for fuel level, amperage, oil pressure, and water temperature. The five-digit odometer shows 88k miles, approximately 3k of which were added under current ownership.
The 427ci V8 was rebuilt in the late 1980s, and the seller tells us that it has solid lifters. Records indicate that an electronic ignition conversion kit was installed in June 2006, and the radiator was replaced in December 2020.
The engine stamping is shown above. The IM suffix corresponds with a 390-horsepower, 427ci V8 for use with a manual transmission.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission and an optional Positraction differential.
Decoding the trim tag reveals:
- Style 66 437 – 1966 Corvette coupe
- Body S1809 – St. Louis body number
- Trim 430 – Green vinyl upholstery
- Paint 982 – Mosport Green Metallic
The vehicle is being sold on its New York registration, which serves as an ownership document in New York.
