This 1971 Volkswagen Type 2 Kombi is a Brazilian-market example that received a 23-window conversion as part of a refurbishment by USA Custom Bus of Pompano Beach, Florida, in 2022. It is finished in blue and white over gray and beige vinyl upholstery, and it is powered by a 1.6L air-cooled flat-four paired with a four-speed manual transaxle. Additional details include steel wheels, whitewall tires, a single downdraft carburetor, electronic ignition, an alternator charging system, a roof rack, a sliding fabric sunroof, eight skylight windows, safari-style windshields, an L-shaped bench seat, a television, and an aftermarket touchscreen head unit. This Type 2 Kombi is now offered on behalf of the current owner, who acquired it in 2023, with a clean Indiana title in the current owner’s name.
The body received a 23-window conversion and a repaint in blue and white as part of the aforementioned refurbishment. Exterior details include a roof rack, a sliding fabric sunroof, eight skylight windows, safari-style windshields, deluxe-style trim, “fried egg” front turn indicators, LED headlights, dual side-view mirrors, and overrider bumpers. Exterior blemishes including cracked bodywork and corrosion are shown in up-close images in the gallery below.
The steel wheels wear chrome VW-stamped hubcaps and are mounted with whitewall tires, and a full-size spare is housed in the rear cargo area.
The forward cabin’s bench seat is trimmed in gray and beige vinyl and is joined by matching door and side panels. Interior elements include a parcel shelf, sliding side windows, an aftermarket shifter, and an aftermarket touchscreen head unit.
Instrumentation includes a fuel level gauge and a 120-km/h speedometer that shows 534 kilometers (~332 miles) on its inset five-digit mechanical odometer. True mileage is unknown.
Dual swing-out side doors on the right provide access to a rear cabin, which is trimmed in matching upholstery and has been fitted with an L-shaped bench seat, lap belts, a flat-screen TV, and privacy curtains.
The replacement single-port 1.6L air-cooled flat-four is equipped with a single downdraft carburetor, electronic ignition, and an alternator charging system.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transaxle that has reportedly been overhauled.
The VIN listed on the Indiana title is preceded by “BH”.
