BMW S52–Powered 1974 Triumph TR6 5-Speed

This 1974 Triumph TR6 was built by the seller as part of a multi-year project completed from 2016 to 2022. Work involved installing a replacement body from a 1976-model donor car along with refurbishing and modifying the chassis to accommodate a 1998 BMW M3–sourced 3.2-liter S52 inline-six and ZF five-speed manual transmission in addition to a 1999 Infiniti Q45–sourced differential out back. Finished in red with a black soft top, the car rides on a modified suspension with Spax performance adjustable front shocks and is further equipped with Wilwood disc brakes as well as 17″ Rota alloy wheels. Inside, Miata-sourced bucket seats trimmed in cream leather are accompanied by a woodgrain dash housing Auto Meter instrumentation as well as a Bluetooth-capable Blaupunkt stereo. Additional equipment includes a tuned ECU, a custom air intake, an aluminum radiator, and a dual exhaust system. This TR6 is now offered with a black vinyl tonneau cover, spare parts, and a Colorado title in the seller’s name.
The chassis was stripped and fitted with a replacement engine cradle, transmission crossmember, and various reinforcement braces before being refinished in black as part of the build. Additional photos taken at various stages of the process are presented in the gallery.
The seller tells us that the replacement body was sourced from a 1976-model donor car. It was repainted in red with a black tail panel before being installed atop the refurbished chassis. A black convertible top is paired with a color-coordinated top boot, and further details include a plastic front air dam, bullet-style side mirrors, wrap-around bumpers, and Union Jack quarter panel decals.
The 17×7.5″ Rota RB alloy wheels are mounted with Firestone Firehawk 500 tires measuring 215/55. The chassis was modified and refinished as part of the build and is noted to be equipped with the following:
- Wilwood four-piston front calipers over 11″ vented rotors
- Wilwood single-piston rear calipers over solid rotors
- Braided stainless-steel brake lines
- Good Parts lowering springs with spacers
- Spax Performance adjustable front shock absorbers
- Alloy front spindles
- Nylatron front suspension bushings
- Good Parts front anti-sway bar
- Good Parts adjustable rear anti-sway bar
- Good Parts CV joint axle and hub assembly kit
- Good Parts adjustable trailing arm brackets with Nylatron bushings
The Miata-sourced bucket seats have been reupholstered utilizing a kit from MrMikes. Color-coordinated trim extends to the door panels as well as the rear of the cabin, while the dash surround, center console, and carpets are black. A Bluetooth-capable Blaupunkt Toronto AM/FM/CD stereo is connected to speakers in the seats, and further details include a BMW shift knob, manual-crank windows, and three-point seatbelts.
The split-spoke steering wheel fronts a woodgrain dash housing retrofitted Auto Meter instrumentation including a 120-mph speedometer, an 8k-rpm tachometer, and centrally mounted auxiliary gauges. The digital odometer indicates 3k miles, and the seller notes that approximately 15k miles have been added under their ownership. Total mileage is unknown.
The seller tells us that the 3.2-liter S52 inline-six and ZF five-speed manual transmission were sourced from a 1998 BMW M3 through Mountain Auto Sport of Ludlow, Vermont. The left side of the firewall was modified to accommodate the retrofitted powertrain, while the left wheel well was adapted to make room for the mass-airflow sensor and custom air intake. Additional updates at the time of the engine and transmission change in 2018 included installation of a tuned ECU from Markert Motor Works, a custom wiring harness, a Classic Technologies fuse block, an inline fuel pump, an Aeromotive fuel regulator, and an aluminum radiator with a SPAL electric puller fan. The VANOS unit is said to have been recently rebuilt.
Power is routed to the rear wheels via a custom driveshaft linked with a 1999 Infiniti Q45–sourced differential installed using a Good Parts mounting kit, CV-joint axles, and hub assemblies. A lightened flywheel and a Sachs clutch assembly are also said to be fitted, and the dual exhaust system is comprised of custom piping flowing into a Magnaflow crossover muffler out back.
The Colorado title carries a “Not Actual Mileage” brand.
