This 1978 Datsun 280Z is one of approximately 1,500 built in the Black Pearl Edition for the final production year. It was initially delivered to Puyallup Datsun in Washington and is said to have remained with its original owner until 2016. The car is powered by a 2.8-liter inline-six paired with a four-speed manual transmission and wears a repaint in black over black vinyl upholstery. Equipment includes 14″ steel wheels, front disc brakes, rear window louvers, air conditioning, and a push-button radio. The car was featured in the January 2009 issue of Hemmings Sports and Exotics and spent time on display in the Datsun Heritage Museum in Murrieta, California, before it was acquired by the current owner on BaT in June 2020. This 280Z is offered in Utah by the seller on behalf of the current owner with a clean Montana title in the name of the owner’s LLC.
The car left the factory finished in Black Pearl Metallic (638) and was repainted under current ownership. Exterior details include a power antenna, hood vents, chrome bumpers, dual side mirrors, and a single exhaust outlet.
The 14″ steel wheels wear full covers and are mounted with 205/70 Michelin Defender tires. Braking is handled by power-assisted front discs and rear drums.
The bucket seats are trimmed in black vinyl, and interior amenities include air conditioning, a push-button radio, a locking glovebox, an electric rear window defogger, and luggage straps.
The leather-wrapped steering wheel frames a 160-mph speedometer and a tachometer with a 6,400-rpm redline, while an analog clock and readouts for coolant temperature, oil pressure, voltage, and fuel level are mounted in the center stack. The five-digit odometer shows 19k miles, approximately 1,300 of which were added under current ownership.
The 2.8-liter L28 inline-six features Bosch L-Jetronic fuel injection and was factory rated at 171 horsepower and 177 lb-ft of torque. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission.
