This 1978 MGB roadster is said to have been registered with one owner in New York before it was acquired by the current owner’s father several decades ago, and it was inherited by the current owner in 2014. Powered by a 1.8-liter inline-four paired with a four-speed manual transmission, the car is finished in Leyland White over black vinyl upholstery. It has been retrofitted with a Weber downdraft carburetor, electronic ignition, and a Lucas Sports ignition coil, and additional equipment includes a black soft top, 14″ Rostyle wheels, a luggage rack, door-mounted mirrors, and an AM/FM radio. This MGB is now offered at no reserve in North Carolina by the seller on behalf of the owner with a window sticker, manufacturer’s literature, service records, and a clean North Carolina title in the owner’s name.
The car is finished in Leyland White and features a black soft top, black MGB-script side graphics, a trunk-mounted luggage rack, door-mounted mirrors, and black rubber bumpers. The right-front fender was replaced, and paintwork was performed on the right side of the car in 1979. There is a tear in the soft top near the right-rear window, and close-up photos of paint cracks and imperfections are viewable in the gallery below along with paint meter readings.
The Rostyle 14″ steel wheels are mounted with 185/70 Dunlop D65 tires. A spare wheel and tire are located in the trunk. Braking is provided by power-assisted front discs and rear drums.
The cabin houses bucket seats upholstered in black vinyl that extends to the door panels. Interior appointments include a center console with storage under the armrest in addition to a locking glove box, a passenger-side map pocket, and an AM/FM radio. A battery cutoff switch is located in the trunk. Cracks are present in the center console trim at the base of the shifter.
A four-spoke steering wheel fronts a tachometer accompanied by a 120-mph speedometer, an analog clock, and auxiliary gauges for coolant temperature, oil pressure, and fuel level. The five-digit odometer shows 22k miles.
The 1.8-liter inline-four has been retrofitted with a Weber downdraft carburetor, Crane Cams Fireball XR700 electronic ignition, a Lucas Sports ignition coil, and an aftermarket crankcase breather. The seller tells us the oil was changed and the carburetor was cleaned in preparation for the sale.
Power is routed to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission.
The window sticker lists initial delivery to Ross Motors of Webster, New York, along with colors, equipment, and a total amount of $6,073.
