This 1994 Mercedes-Benz 290GD is a long-wheelbase Wolf that was acquired in Europe by the seller in 2024, and it was disassembled and refurbished in gray over black and brown leather upholstery before it was imported to the US. Work during the refurbishment included body repairs, overhauling the 2.9-liter diesel inline-five, overhauling the brakes and suspension, and installing a VintageAir air conditioning system and a replacement black soft top. Modifications include Wesem LED headlights, LED taillights, an intake snorkel, custom interior upholstery, and a Blaupunkt Bluetooth stereo. Further equipment consists of a five-speed manual transmission, a dual-range transfer case, front and rear locking differentials, front disc brakes, a Warn front winch, a tow hitch, and inward-facing rear jump seats. This W461 290GD is now offered with a clean Carfax report and a Pennsylvania title in the seller’s name.
The seller has been informed that the truck is one of approximately 414 long-wheelbase examples built between 1992 and 1997. During the refurbishment, the body was separated from the frame, sheetmetal repairs were performed, and the body panels were refinished in gray. The black soft top is said to be constructed of Sonnenland material, and it features roll-up side and rear windows. Further equipment includes an intake snorkel, a fold-down windshield, Wesem LED headlights, LED taillights, a Warn M8000 front winch with synthetic line, a tow hitch, and black trim. The image above, and the majority of the gallery photos were taken in December 2024 before the truck was imported to the US.
The 16″ steel wheels are mounted with 265/75 BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/S K02 tires, and a spare is affixed to the rear cargo door. The truck was factory equipped with a front axle torsion stabilizer bar as well as rigid front and rear axles with coil springs and telescopic shock absorbers. The braking system was disassembled and overhauled, and replacement suspension components were fitted under current ownership.
The front and second-row bucket seats and the inward-facing jump seats were reupholstered in Black and Cognac leather with quilted inserts and contrasting stitching, and matching upholstery extends to the dashboard and door panels. The seller tells us that sound insulation was applied before the interior was reinstalled, and appointments include a VintageAir air conditioning system, quilted upholstery on the transmission tunnel, rear cupholders, a Bluetooth-capable Blaupunkt Brighton 170 BT stereo, wood trim, and wood planking on the rear cargo area floor.
The two-steering wheel has been re-trimmed in black and brown leather, and it frames a replacement 90-mph speedometer as well as gauges for fuel level and coolant temperature. The digital odometer shows 224 miles, which is said to represent the distance added since the refurbishment was completed.
The 2.9-liter OM602 diesel inline-five was disassembled and overhauled in 2024, and work at that time included replacing the pistons, timing components, lifters, and assorted gaskets and seals. Photos of the engine build process and replacement hardware are viewable in the gallery below.
Power is sent to the rear or all four wheels through a five-speed manual transmission, a dual-range transfer case, and front and rear locking differentials. The frame was refinished in black and a replacement exhaust system was installed under current ownership.
Photos of the truck before and during the refurbishment are viewable in the gallery below.
The Carfax report shows no accidents or other reported damage.
The current Pennsylvania title lists an “Out of Country” brand.
