This 1996 Ford Mustang SVT Cobra convertible is a Canadian-market example that spent time in Ontario and Quebec before it was acquired by the seller in 2023 and imported to the US. Finished in Laser Red Tinted Clearcoat over Saddle leather, the car is powered by a 4.6-liter DOHC V8 paired with a five-speed manual transmission. It is also equipped with a limited-slip differential, a Saddle soft top, a decklid spoiler, fog lights, a revised hood and bumper covers, and 17″ cast-aluminum wheels in addition to a roll bar, air conditioning, cruise control, a power-adjustable driver’s seat, and a CD/cassette stereo linked to a Mach 460 sound system. This Mustang SVT Cobra convertible is now offered at no reserve with a Ford SVT Certificate of Authenticity, a copy of the window sticker, a Carfax report, and a clean Michigan title in the seller’s name.
The SVT Cobra featured Cobra-logo fender badges and revised front and rear bumper covers when compared to the contemporary Mustang GT. This example is finished in Laser Red Tinted Clearcoat (E9), and additional exterior details include a power-retractable Saddle convertible top, a decklid spoiler, a brushed metal fuel door, fog lights, and hood vents. The Carfax report indicates that the car was stolen in April 1999.
This is a relist after the vehicle was previously sold on BaT in October 2023 and the sale was not completed.
Cast-aluminum 17″ five-spoke wheels are mounted with 245/45 BFGoodrich g-Force Sport Comp-2 tires with production date codes from 2011 and 2016. Stopping power is provided by four-wheel anti-lock disc brakes with Cobra-branded front calipers.
The articulated front seats and the rear seats are upholstered in Saddle leather and are accompanied by a two-tone dashboard and door panels. Appointments include air conditioning, cruise control, dual front airbags, a roll bar with an integrated brake light, and a Mach 460 CD/cassette stereo as well as power windows, locks, and mirrors. Photos show creases in the upholstery on the driver’s seat.
The four-spoke steering wheel frames a 240-km/h speedometer, a tachometer with a 6,800-rpm redline, and gauges for coolant temperature, voltage, oil pressure, and fuel level. The six-digit odometer shows 77k kilometers (~47k miles), approximately 600 of which have been added under current ownership. The Carfax report lists a mileage inconsistency in June 2018.
The 4.6-liter DOHC V8 features electronic fuel injection and four valves per cylinder. Factory-rated output was 305 horsepower and 300 lb-ft of torque.
Power is routed to the rear wheels via a Borg-Warner T45 five-speed manual transmission and a Traction-Lok limited-slip differential. The car is equipped with aftermarket exhaust components.
The Carfax report displays the aforementioned April 1999 stolen report and June 2018 mileage inconsistency. An October 2023 AutoCheck report can be viewed in the gallery of the previous listing.
